The One Hour, Express Yourself Window Swag is the "canvas" that you creatively adorn to add your own signature touch. We show you how to make a variety of contrasting fabric bands and provide ideas for finishing your creation with unique button combinations, fun braids and flashy trimmings. The center depth of the Swag is 16 to 18" (41 to 46cm) depending upon your window width and can be made for windows 30-52" (76-132cm) wide. The sides of the Swag have a little added fullness that provides flirty interest and dimension at both ends. Mounting is simple – the swag is attached to a 1" X 3" (2.5cm X 7.5cm) pine board using a staple gun.
Here's the scoop on the details added for each View:
VIEW A – The contrast fabric mini band added to the Window Swag's bottom edge is 3/4" (2cm) wide. To change the look, we made "petal" trim by cutting 5" (13cm) circles in half and stitching them to ribbon. Then we fused the new trim to the back of the treatment. The fabric rose is made from a long strip of fabric – we added one but you may want to add more!
VIEW B – This Window Swag sports the "sit and stitch" pleated band – you actually fold the pleats in place while sewing! A brightly colored braid accentuates the pleated band. The lined Cafés feature super speedy braid tabs, topped off with perky buttons. The Cafés are mounted on a decorative pole and can be made for windows 30-52" (76-132cm) wide.
VIEW C – For this Window Swag we selected an iron-on ric-rac trim that was quickly fused to the swooped edge. We then layered brightly colored buttons over the ric-rac attaching them with a glue gun for a unique look that only took a few minutes! The Roll-Up Shade is lined with a fun contrast lining and cording rolls the shade up to any height on the window. The secret is a wood pole inserted into the bottom edge; the weight helps the shade lift properly. Your fabric width determines the width of the shade you can make – see Fabric Requirement Chart for size range. The shade is easily stapled to a 1" X 2" (2.5cm X 5cm) pine mounting board that fits snug against or inside the window. NOTE: The top of the shade must be hidden beneath a swag or other valance; the board shows on the front of the shade.
VIEW D – The contrast fabric band added to the Window Swag's bottom edge is 3" wide (7.5 cm) wide. Luminous 1-1/2" (3.8cm) wide mother-of-pearl buttons hand stitched four inches (10cm) apart across the band provide the look of expensive trim! The Banded Panel features an interesting woven sheer that is banded on one edge and pulled to the side with a contrast tieback. The Panel is mounted on a simple 1" (2.5 cm) wide curtain rod and fits windows 30-52" (76-132cm) wide.
FABRIC SUGGESTIONS:
ALL SWAGS AND CAFÉS: Light to mid-weight decorator fabrics such as cotton and cotton blends, linens, jacquards, or other similar weaves work well.
VIEW D BANDED PANEL: Select a sheer fabric for the panel and a light to mid-weight decorator fabric for the contrast band.
LINING SUGGESTIONS:
ALL VIEWS – SWAG: Select a white or off-white drapery lining fabric. Sun resistant or water resistant linings are recommended.
VIEW B – CAFÉS: Select same lining as for Swag.
VIEW C - ROLL-UP SHADE: Select a contrast fabric similar in weight to the FACE fabric for the back of the Shade.
VIEW D - BANDED PANEL: Panel is made from sheer fabric and is not lined.
PURCHASE LINING SAME WIDTH AS FACE FABRIC, IF POSSIBLE.
